Mayor Richard Lopez
Before he was mayor, he spent more than a decade with the Carlsbad Fire Department, rising to Chief — and he still answers calls as a firefighter at WIPP. A Carlsbad High graduate with a management degree from the College of the Southwest, he took office in January 2024 with a focus on public safety, infrastructure, and open, collaborative government.
The Energy Summit is his platform for making the case that what happens in the Permian Basin matters to the whole country.
