LOCAL ENERGY, NATIONAL IMPACT
OCT 22, 2026
This year’s theme reflects the many ways energy shapes our lives, starting right here in Carlsbad and the Permian Basin. The energy produced in our backyard powers homes, businesses, and progress across the country—it’s the foundation of our community and our nation’s future. Together, we celebrate the strength of the energy industry and the people right here who make it possible.

Carlsbad native · Former Fire Chief · Mayor since 2024
Mayor Richard Lopez
Before he was mayor, he spent more than a decade with the Carlsbad Fire Department, rising to Chief — and he still answers calls as a firefighter at WIPP. A Carlsbad High graduate with a management degree from the College of the Southwest, he took office in January 2024 with a focus on public safety, infrastructure, and open, collaborative government.
The Energy Summit is his platform for making the case that what happens in the Permian Basin matters to the whole country.
